Jackson Hole Fly Company

In the summer of 2019 we were approached by the new ownership of Jackson Cardinal Flies—a wholesale fly fishing manufacturer in business since 1978—to develop and launch a new brand: JHFLYCO. They wanted to expand into the direct-to-consumer market and needed an identity that would appeal to young people just getting interested in fly fishing. We worked with them to develop a dynamic brand system, an e-commerce website, and a powerful marketing program.

 
 

The Big
Challenge

Fly fishing is a crowded industry dominated by several large manufacturers and retailers. We worked with Jackson Hole Fly Company to figure out their niche: they design and manufacture all of their own products, and sell directly to their customers through their website. By focusing on direct-to-consumer online sales they were able to reach younger customers and build brand loyalty, allowing them to grow quickly.

Dynamic Brand

Sharp Eye Deer developed a fully dynamic brand for JHFLYCO centered around a stylized jumping trout icon framed by a badge representing fly line. We paired those elements with carefully chosen typography and a robust color palette to create a logo that can be perfectly adjusted for any situation.

Shopify Online Store

We built a custom e-commerce store on the Shopify platform for JHFLYCO. Their store remains in the top 5% in traffic of Shopify websites launched the same month and already boasts an email list of over 10,000 subscribers.

JHFLYCO isn’t just selling fly-fishing gear: they’re selling the lifestyle that goes with it. Lazy walks along riverbanks in the summer sun. The subtle weight of the fly line as it billows behind you while you cast. The triumph of catching a trout hiding under a shady stream bank, and the mercy of releasing it again. We source and create photography that immediately makes you want to go fishing.
